FAQ’s

  • What are your credentials?

MSMFT: Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy
LMFT: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Certified Level 2 IFS Therapist: This means I’ve completed Level 1 & 2 of Internal Family Systems trainings, and have been officially certified through the IFS Institute. This process involves engagement in ongoing group and individual supervision and experiential work related to growing in my personal and professional practice with this modality.

  • If you’re a Marriage and FAMILY THERAPIST. WHY WOULD I SEE YOU FOR INDIVIDUAL THERAPY?

It’s a fair question. A common misunderstanding is that LMFTs are only trained to work with couples and families. Thankfully, rather than being limited in this way, LMFT training prepares a therapist for working effectively with couples, families, individuals, and groups. LMFT training is grounded in understanding each individual in the context of their various relationships; both past and present. LMFT training also provides a lense that honors the impact of living within larger cultural and societal systems as part of the healing work. Tracking patterns, habits, and themes in our relationships with others and the world around us can provide a pathway for better understanding and transforming your relationship with yourself; a key component of the complex and varied paths to healing.

  • Is Therapy Confidential?

Confidentiality is a vital component between client and therapist. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust and various measures to honor and protect confidentiality.
State law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality with exceptions to circumstances that may affect your safety or the safety of those around you.

  • What is Therapy Like?

In a therapy session you’re given 50-55 minutes of individual attention from a trained professional to accompany you on your way to finding relief, growth, and change. Good therapy involves being listened to well in a non-judgmental space. Therapy often introduces new, productive ways of processing your thoughts, emotions, and patterns.

Most folks attend counseling on a weekly basis. Some attend counseling for a brief period to target specific goals, and others attend counseling for longer periods.

  • How do I know therapy is right for me?

The best way to answer this question is to just give it a try. You already know by now if you’re feeling stuck, blocked, in need of support or seeking relief. Taking the first step takes courage. Scheduling an initial session can be helpful in providing space for you to tune into your needs and inclinations as you navigate what may work best for you.

  • Do you prescribe medication?

No. Psychotropic medication is prescribed by Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, and Medical Doctors. Communication and collaboration with medication prescribers can be arranged at your request.
